Apron Challenge
The Apron Competition will be open to anyone who would like to bring an apron they decorated themselves to impress Kent. You will have to purchase tickets to the Harker Heights Food, Wine, and Brew Fest.

You will turn in your apron at the Cooking for Kent competition tent between 2pm and 4pm. When you turn the apron in, it will get labeled with your name and phone number.

Kent and Shannon will pick the apron they’re most impressed with and announce the winner during the competition awards at 5:00pm.

Your apron will be available for you to pick back up from 5:00pm to 5:30pm. Aprons not picked up by the close of event will be held at the Harker Heights Chamber for 1 week, then will be donated.

Cooking for Kent Fan Challenge
As a finalist competitor, you will be cooking YOUR version of chicken fried steak and gravy. You’ll be provided all the ingredients listed in Kent’s cookbook for his chicken fried steak and gravy, but if you want to use something different let us know in your submission. If you have a special secret ingredient, feel free to bring that yourself.

You’ll be provided with your own cooking area with a table, gas fire burner, cast-iron skillet, mixing bowls, measuring cups, cooking utensils, etc. There will also be a handwashing station as well as a wash and rinse station, gloves and hairnets if desired.

The competition area will be set up under a 30x30 events tent. Your area will be approximately 8x8. The setup is in a park, on the ground.

Each competitor must compete on their own. No outside assistance nor helpers in the kitchen. If special arrangements need to be made to accommodate a selected competitor, please let us know so we can assist.

Chose competitors and Wildcard competitors must check-in at the Cooking for Kent Competition tent on the day of (October 18th) between 2pm & 2:30pm. The wildcard competitor(s) will be drawn just after 2:30pm and announced during Kent's book signing.

Kent will be signing books at the competition tent from 2:15pm to 3:30pm. There will be Cowboy Kent merchandise, including cookbooks, spices, and jarred goods for sale at the event. If you already have a cookbook and you’d like Kent to sign it, feel free to bring it with you.

The Cooking for Kent Challenge will be from 4pm to 5pm. You must prepare your chicken fried steak and gravy and present it for judging within the set timeline.
